The Product Owner (PO) is a passionate customer-centric person who is responsible for the delivery of a Feature Team's product. The PO empowers the team to tackle business problems and realise customer value. This person creates an environment in which people bring out the best in themselves and ensures they feel safe to experiment.

The main accountability of the PO is to ensure that the team is working on the right set of business problems, to interface with the business stakeholders and to focus on delivering value for the bank and customers.

The PO ensures continuous clear communication both within the team (Scrum Master and team members) and across the organisation.

Delivery of value - Realising and managing the team mission:

  • In close coordination with the business owner and other stakeholders:
  1. bring to life the Feature Team’s contribution to the business area’s strategy
  2. be responsible for delivery against the business benefits or success factors
  3. prioritise ruthlessly, whilst balancing the needs of customers, stakeholders and risk
  • Integrate engagement and work of external suppliers and agencies into the team delivery process
  • Ensure the non-functional elements of products (robustness, performance, scalability, usability, extensibility, ease to maintain and configure, ease of integration, compliance, IT security)
  • Create, refine and prioritise the product backlog      and make the last decision for the sprint planning

 

Delivery of value - Realising and managing the team mission:

  • Continuously engage stakeholders to ensure the team is building the right product and therefore delivering the business value expected by the Business Owner
  • Participate in and facilitate the scrum ceremonies
  • Clarify questions on requirements with clients, developers and testers
  • Encourage the production of easy to use prototypes and MVPs, and continue to improve and fine tune them
  • Sign off the quality of sprint increments to confirm the product meets user needs
  • Support the Scrum Master to remove blockers and impediments for the team
  • Ensure appropriate business stakeholders attend relevant Sprint Review meetings
  • Together with the Scrum Master, manage “cross-Feature Team” risks, assumptions, issues and dependencies
  • Support the Scrum Master to protect the autonomy and self-organization of the team so they can focus on product development
  • Engage with the line manager, Agile Coach and HR to discuss the team’s development needs

 

Creating and protecting the new culture:

 

  • Foster a culture of curiosity and experimentation in which people are comfortable "trying things out" and learning quickly and safely
  • Participate in the Product Owner community, identifying opportunities for both "making better things" and "making things better"

Your knowledge/experience:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Several years relevant work experience with strong business acumen
  • Proven experience in creating and maintaining Product backlogs
  • Proven experience in working with technical and cross-functional teams to deliver change
  • Understanding of the Feature Team’s different skills, i.e. analysis, development and testing
  • Expert knowledge of the Product and/or Business Area aligned to the team
  • Ability to influence up and down the organisation - ability to explain sprint prioritisation decisions in releases
  • Data driven with evidence based decision-making
  • Comfortable with challenging stakeholders
  • Fluency in English, German a strong plus
